honest doubt

“Perplext in faith, but pure in deeds,
At last he beat his music out.
There lives more faith in honest doubt,
Believe me, than in half the creeds.
He fought his doubt and gather’d strength,
He would not make his judgment blind,
He faced the spectres of the mind
And laid them; thus he came at length

believe

This afternoon, we had a combined service at a nearby church. We sang some songs of worship and praise. And then we had an open mic for people to share what Christ is doing in their lives. These types of unscripted testimonies are some of my favorite things about following Christ.
One gentleman stood up. It was [...]

a true disciple

Last night, we watched Ghandi. I really enjoyed it.
At one point in the movie, Ghandi was telling Vince Walker, the reporter from the New York Times, about a song he used to sing growing up.

means to an end

One of the bands that I really appreciate, because of their original melodies and lyrics and message, is Caedmon’s Call.
I was glad to see Derek Webb rejoined them on their latest album, bringing his songwriting skills and kingdom mindset.

Last night, in the car, we were listening to the song “All Across the Western World.”
One of the lines [...]

yesterday today

I’ve quoted Angie Weldon before.
In fact, I’ve even quoted this quote before.
But it’s been bouncing around in my head.
And thanks to a conversation with Jill Carnuccio, one of the best poets out there, I focused on getting it out of my head and into verse.
Angie once wrote these profound words:
“i’m determined to live today like [...]
