intercessor
Mar 23rd, 2009 by Nathanael
I want to be an intercessor.
I want to join my God in the privilege of praying for others.
And when it comes to interceding, it is imperative that I listen.
I must be listening to the person I’m praying for, listening not just to their words, but to the heart from which those words are coming.
And I must be listening to the Holy Spirit, trusting He will reveal to me how to pray for this person.
He will also reveal things I should be sharing with them, whether encouragement or admonition, whatever they need to hear at that moment.
If I trust in my own wisdom and say what I think they need to hear, I’ll only make things worse.
But if I’m listening to the Holy Spirit, who knows exactly what they need to hear at that precise moment, I can be a mouthpiece for God to them.
I want to be someone who hears the cry of the oppressed and then hears God’s answer to them so I can share it with them and pray for them with knowledge.
I want to be an intercessor.
That’s a noble goal.
Much depth in those simple thoughts. In a self cemtered culture, and in some corners a self centered church, it is a colossal challenge to feel the pain of others to such a degree that is drive one to sacrifice time and convenience and earnestly intercede for others.
Prayer usually plants the seeds that are harvested by others.
Rick,
You said, “Prayer usually plants the seeds that are harvested by others.”
This is so true.
And how often have we been part of seeing fruit born out of the seeds of prayers that others faithfully sowed.
Good thoughts, brother.
