death sucks
Feb 13th, 2009 by Nathanael
It does. I just got back from a funeral for an amazing 23 year old young lady who’s life was suddenly and tragically ended. Her friends and family, people who she influenced, got up and testified of the incredible, godly person she was. Adjectives like loving, faithful, loyal, goofy, genuine were flowing as friends and families shared of the life of this young lady.
Her older brother and sister and dad and mom shared memories and how grateful they were for the time they were blessed to have her in their lives.
Our pastor gave a clear gospel message. People accepted Christ as their Savior.
As far as funeral services go, this one was incredible.
But that doesn’t negate the fact that death sucks.
To watch this family and realize that their reality means life without their daughter and sister and friend makes me cry.
Parents shouldn’t have to bury their kids.
Brothers and sisters shouldn’t lose their baby sister at 23.
Friendships that are blossoming and growing shouldn’t be severed so suddenly and severely.
Death sucks.
We’re not wired to deal with death.
We were created as eternal beings to walk with God.
And sin crushed that.
We now experience separation and pain.
But Jesus conquered sin and the grave once and for all.
Do you know Him?
She did.
And she is now rejoicing with God and the redeemed and the angels.
I don’t grieve for her.
I grieve for the family and friends who have to adjust to life without her.

To the mother, childbirth sucks…but the result is wonderful.
To the believer, death sucks…but the result is unimagineable.
Rick,
You definitely hit on something there.
Death for a believer is like childbirth into the reality of eternity.
When we are in the womb, we are safe and taken care of.
But we are not fully free.
And through the tension of childbirth, we are set free from our womb into life.
For the Christian, death is birth.
Hmmmm…
Thanks for your thoughts, brother.
Shalom
