a prayer

Last night, a few of us met with our pastors to continue a conversation we’ve been having regarding house churches and church plants. And during one of our times of prayer, our pastor Phil prayed this wonderful prayer.
“Lord, help us see this is not about us building our kingdom.
It’s about being yielded vessels so you [...]

condescension

I don’t like to be patronized.
I went into a woodworking store this evening.
I needed help.
The guy who worked there didn’t want to be helpful.
He wanted to show me he knew more than me.
Truth be told, he didn’t.
Unbeknownst to him, I actually know a thing or two about woodworking.
So I left.
I got what I needed online for [...]

cheddar helps

So this weekend, one of my projects was hanging two ceiling fans in the kitchen. Michelle was painting. And Cheddar was constantly underfoot, even brushing against the wall with wet paint.
Well, at one point, I got off the ladder and was working on the fan blades on the floor.
And Cheddar decided he would give his unrequested [...]

a great story

Michelle’s cousin is a missionary abroad ministering with her husband to the street kids in their community. She shared this story with the family in her last email. I asked her if I could share it, and she said I could, but asked me not to reveal her location or the name of the young [...]

hope

“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep” (I Thes. 4.13-14 ESV).

death sucks

It does. I just got back from a funeral for an amazing 23 year old young lady who’s life was suddenly and tragically ended. Her friends and family, people who she influenced, got up and testified of the incredible, godly person she was. Adjectives like loving, faithful, loyal, goofy, genuine were flowing as friends and families shared of [...]

this mission

The humility of our God amazes me. He is on mission to restore and reconcile this world back to Himself.
And He calls us to join Him on this mission.
This mission on which we’ve been called has so many facets.
It’s very clear that it is not about us.
It is about God and what He is doing [...]

a new addition to our little family

Last night, we adopted and picked up Cheddar from the Lancaster County Humane League.

Of course, he pooped in his crate on the way home.
So his introduction to our home was a traumatic bath.
But he is very affectionate.

Last night, actually 1:30 this morning, I carried him down to his litter box.
He peed.
I praised him.
And then I [...]

roto-rooter

Well, on Saturday night, we were making a baked french toast with apples dish for our breakfast/house church meeting at the McIntires. My job was to peel and core the apples, for which we have a handy little gadget that does both, leaving you with the core on the spikes and a pile of thin [...]

need to read again

Well, I just finished “Jesus Wants to Save Christians” by Rob Bell and Don Golden. And due to various distractions, I am going to have to read it again.

Initial thoughts…I loved this book. I know Rob has his critics. But anyone who reads this book will immediately realize that Rob Bell loves God and His Word [...]
