We have some neighbors who live in the apartment above us. They are from India, and they work at the local Dunkin Donuts. They walk to work, so whenever I’m heading out at the same time they are, I offer them a ride. Initially, they turned me down. But one cold, windy winter day, they took me up on my offer. I introduced myself to them. To the best of my understanding (with their heavy accent and my far-from-perfect hearing) their names are Ned and Rita. I probably have that WAY off. I dropped them off at Dunkin, and they offered me a coffee. I declined, due to an incurable pride issue I’ve battled my whole life.
The next time I offered them a ride, they immediately accepted. And this time, when they offered me a coffee, I took them up on it. I realized that just like I wanted to give them a ride, they wanted to give me a hot beverage with caffeine in it, no strings attached.
Ever since that first time, they always accept my offer for a ride. In fact, I just stop and they get in my truck. And ever since that second time, I almost always accept their offer for a Dunkin treat. In fact, I don’t even get my money out to try to pay any more.
But the best part of this story is how they pronounce my name. Yep, I was actually going somewhere with this rambling anecdote. They call me “Nothing.” Yessir, that’s me, Nothing. When they get in my truck, they say, in thick Indian accent, “Hello, Nothing.” And when they get out, they express their gratitude with, “Thank you, Nothing.”
Ladies and gentlemen, I am nothing.

That is so cool! The most mispronunciation of my name I get is the H replaced with an M or a P. It’s great that you can get to know these people through car rides and coffee.
What a blessing!
Thats pretty funny!! And you are not nothing!!! have a blessed day!!!
thanks, Jen
