relentlessly kind

Someone once gave me a cd of a conference where Graham Cooke preached. He used a hauntingly catchy phrase. He said that the Holy Spirit is “relentlessly kind.” And that phrase is so full of truth. The Spirit of the living God works in ways that we may not choose, but that He knows we need to pass through. And that paradoxical expression prompted this little poem.
Spirit of God, you’re relentlessly kind,
Assaulting in love, my heart, soul and mind,
Freeing my soul, while your cords of love bind.
Spirit of God, you’re relentlessly kind.
Your storm of love soaks me to the core.
You sink my boat so I’ll swim to your shore.
You attack my flesh, waging an all-out war.
And redeem all that my sins lost before.
Your winds of mercy knock me off my feet,
You assail my heart with compassionate heat.
When I think all is lost in what looks like defeat,
I find peace and shelter at your mercy seat.
Spirit of God, you’re relentlessly kind,
Assaulting in love, my heart, soul and mind,
Freeing my soul, while your cords of love bind.
Spirit of God, you’re relentlessly kind.
