There are several people who I know personally that I really look up to spiritually. They seem to have their fellowship and communion with the Lord on a heavenly plain. And then they are humble and gracious enough to bring the fruit of their devotion down to the rest of us. Philip Manthey (my dad) and Phil Carnuccio and Corey Curyto and Steve and Stef Wilson are a few that immediately come to mind. They seem to have tapped into an aspect of intimacy for which the rest of us long. I always come away blessed and encouraged after conversations with these men and women of God.
There are a few men of God that I would love to one day converse with over a good cup of coffee. Scot McKnight and Rob Bell immediately come to mind. And there were a few men who are already home with Jesus who seemed to commune on a higher plain than their peers. I would love to have shared conversation and an ale with C.S. Lewis. I wish I could sit down with C.H. Spurgeon and talk over a good cigar. But the man of God who brings me the closest to fellowship with my Redeemer is Oswald Chambers. He, above all writers I read, consistently challenges and encourages and edifies my very soul. One quote from this man will keep me going for days. And this one is no different.
“If we have never been hurt by a statement of Jesus, it is questionable whether we have ever really heard Him speak.”
(Oswald Chambers, from So I Send You)
Who affects you?
Who draws you closer to Jesus?

I think I’d like to have lunch with the late CS Lewis. We’ve been studying mere christianity in our small group and he just makes so much sense, and he’s funny too! but i also have always been touched by ruth and naomi, the biblical ones. i’d like to hang out with them sometime.
Good call on the Ruth and Naomi hang-out session.
Is there another duo by the same name that made you feel it was necessary to qualify that you were referring to “the biblical ones”?
lol, i don’t know any other ruth and naomi duo. of course there is my amish friend naomi and my sister in law ruth, but they’re not really a duo, actually they’ve never even met. oh my, just thinking about how opposite those two are, yikes!
