your Spirit like water

As springs within a desert land,
Or bubbling up in barren hills,
An oasis rising from the sand,
A dried-up stream fresh water fills,
So is your Spirit to my soul.
As rain upon the dry-cracked ground,
Refreshing the drought-plagued earth,
As silence broken by the sound
Of rain-drops in melodic mirth,
So is your Spirit to my soul.

being vs. becoming

Sometimes I get so caught up in what I am becoming that I lose focus of the simple fact that I should be just as concerned with what I am being.  Sure, it’s important to look ahead, to be able to see how present circumstances are going to shape and mold my character.  But my immediate response […]

proof

Two days ago, I wrote a post about my two beautiful nieces.
I got the sense that a few of you out there doubted the validity of my statement, saying I used the word “beautiful” loosely, and that I called them beautiful just because I was their uncle and had to say it.
Well, HA! you were wrong and here’s proof:

so much to learn

So much to learn,
And more to un-learn.
   Teach me, Lord,
   Un-teach me.
Only you can discern
Each winding turn.
   Only you, Lord
   Can reach me.

My cry, Lord, hear it,
A teachable spirit,
   I need more
   Than anything else.
The precipice, I’m near it,
As a man, I fear it.
   Yet good is in store,
   Your gentle voice tells.

So I lay […]

fix or join

I have two beautiful nieces, Lana and Grace.  They are 4 years old and were the flower girls in our wedding.  Lana and Grace are more than cousins, they are very close friends.  They were born about two weeks apart and love each other dearly.
When Gracie was born, her fourth toe on her right foot was slightly higher […]

the kingdom

The Holy Spirit, through Andrew Murray’s (1828-1917) devotional God’s Best Secrets, reminded me of something this morning.  And so I am reminding you.
“How much has been written about what the Kingdom of heaven means, but here we have what it really is.  As God rules in His Kingdom in heaven, so when the kingdom comes […]

with all due respect…

Why is it, when someone is about to insult your intelligence, they preface their degrading comment with, “With all due respect…”?  It’s as if I said to you, “With all due respect, you’re a moron.”  The end of my comment has much more impact then the beginning.  In fact, you may be more hurt by […]

intimacy

Jesus, for so long I’ve known about you,
But now I want to truly know you.
I’ve tried for so long to live without you,
But now my religious seams show thru.
Jesus, you’ve softened this heart before,
I’m begging you, soften it again.
For so long now, I’ve known you as “Lord,”
But now I want to […]

a link

I just found Brant Hanson today.  No, he wasn’t missing…I was missing him.  Thank you, Dan, for hookin’ me up.
If you take yourself seriously, do yourself and the rest of us a favor and do not click on this link.  But if you need a really good laugh, while your hypocrisy is pointed out, while […]

a gentle reminder

I know this is no new revelation.  But the Lord reminded me of it this morning, and so I’m passing it on…
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?  (Galatians 3:3 ESV)
If it was truly the Spirit of the living God who first awakened me to […]
