If my heart is like a garden, then my flesh is the weeds. Weeds in a garden do not need to be planted. If there’s soil, there are weeds. They don’t need any special attention or fertilization. They thrive just fine on their own.
But when it comes to bearing the fruit of the Spirit in my garden, labor from the divine Gardener is required. Otherwise, any gracious plants would wither and die before they even got close to bearing fruit for His glory.
My fallen flesh produces weeds
That need no cultivating care,
No special planting of the seeds,
They find the nutrients they need
Already buried there.
Lying, waiting in my heart
Are weeds ready to flourish.
They need no horticultural art.
They grow in light and in dark.
They never seem malnourished.
But if gracious plants are to arise,
The exact opposite is true.
They must be fed and fertilized
Under the Gardener’s watchful eyes,
If they would bear good fruit.
So divine Gardener, make haste,
Uproot these noxious weeds.
Nurture your plants of grace,
Remove my weeds of waste,
And fertilize your good seed.

Good words, again. I read John 15:1-8 in church Sunday. The Husbandman prunes the branches that bear fruit so as to produce more fruit. Without Him we can do nothing. Lord help us to abide in You
WITHOUT HIM WE CAN DO NOTHING!!!
Amen.
John 15 is one of my favorite passages.
